Hayfield is a camping and caravanning club site which allows non-members on. This site is ideally located within the Peak District National Park which is a beautiful location for walkers. The site is just 15 min walk from the village Hayfield which was used for the TV show The Village. You will find photos of the TV show in some of the local pubs. This is a very picturesque village which is located at the foot of Kinder Scout. From the site you have a number of options to walk to this village. Just outside the gate on the left there is a footpath following a stream. As you walk along you will find a number of bridges that take you up on to the higher road which leads into the village.
The first bridge will take you to the Sportsman Inn. This is about 10 min stroll from the campsite and serves great food and local ales. If you are a dog lover then you will be pleased to know not only is this excellent site for walking but all the pubs including the Hotel’s in the village allow dogs in. Within the village there are two hotels and a pub. We had a meal in the George Hotel which served great food and beer and is very popular with the locals. Around the walls with in the George Hotel you will see the photos of the TV show being produced.
The Royal hotel in the centre of the village is also very nice a comfortable with its large rooms and leather sofas, just what you need after a very long walk. They also serve food and a good selection of beers and as already said allow your 4 legged friends in.
The campsite has hard standing and a number of electric points. This is a very popular site due to its location so may be worth booking if you require electric. We arrived without booking on a Saturday night and all electric pitches were taken. The Warden’s were very friendly and managed to get us some electric for the night so we could charge our laptops. We wanted them to be able to organise our adventure in the morning across Kinder Scout. Toilets and showers on site are very good and the site is well run and clean. A bit of warning this is not for caravans due to the tight roads within the village. We got through all OK with our van but would not be advisable for caravans.
Whilst you are here it’s easy to explore the Peak District. We did the Kinder Scout walk along the ridge. This is shown on the link to the left of this page. If you want to do this walk it will take about 4 hours and is approximately 9 miles long. It starts from the campsite and at first is a very steep climb which then levels out. The walk back to the site was difficult due to the stream which has washed away the foot path, so it may not be suitable for all to follow this last piece. If you do the walk, you will be awarded with spectacular views across the peaks and you will pass by the water fall at the top. This was a great walking holiday and good for taking photos. I look forward to returning soon.
