The Fancott

This is a Britstop country pub which allows you to stay overnight for free as long as you are dinning in which is something not to miss. The pub is very popular so may be worth a call before coming to reserve a table. We turned up at 19:30 on a dark autumn night after a very bad drive up our lovely English motorways. So we was delighted to find the pub was only 5 min from the M1 and very easy to find. We pulled into the well lit car park and headed to the rear where you will find a grass patch to pull up on next to the railway crossing. But before you think horror, a railway crossing next to the van and no sleeping. This pub has its own miniature railway club and has built a model 16mm narrow gauge railway around the garden. It has all the railway stuff like a crossing, bridge over the line and a station. We never got to see it working due to the time we arrived and left but will try to get back one time on their fun days. I know my boy would love to see this and hopefully get to ride on it around the garden.

We set up and headed into the pub to be welcomed by a friendly team. Our table was already set up next to the bar which was great for me. The young lady asked if we got set up all ok and explained we could also have electric hook up which was also free. Can’t really ask for more but I know they also provide drinking water and waste water removal from reading the Britstop book.

We sat down to relax with a nice pint of Timothy Taylor local ale followed by a pint of Doom bar whilst we waited for our meals to arrive. I had the home made steak and kidney pie and my wife had the share starter chicken wings for a main course. The food was excellent and the bar staff when ordering drinks brought it over to you so you did not have to wait around. All in all the service was excellent and watching them busily hovering around they looked very professional.

We will be returning here one day because it’s an excellent stop over for anyone on the M1 going up or down the country. If you are around this area I highly recommend this stopover
